Eco-friendly Body Scrubs to Use

Why Body Scrubs?

There’s nothing better than hopping into the shower and letting all the gunk wash away. Especially, after a long day! However, it’s not enough to just scrub away with warm water and lather on some body butter. This is because dead skin can still remain on your body. If you truly want to treat yourself and get that supple yet soft skin. Indulging in a bit more self-care is the way to go. This is a great time to get using those body scrubs, especially sustainable and organic ones! Whether you’re suffering from irritated bumpy skin, or dry elbows and knees, these scrubs bring a lot of benefits to your skin.

What are body scrubs?

Much as its name suggests, body scrubs are a kind of physical exfoliator, meaning they are designed to slough away the dead skin cells on top of the skin. The feeling of it ‘scrubbing’ away at your skin is the result of a combination of grainy ingredients such as salt or sugar, mixed with an oil or gel base. However, some body scrubs are also in powder form or are water-based. Aside from removing dead skin cells and cleaning the skin, the act of massaging the body using these scrubs helps to replenish the skin’s natural moisture and oil levels. Massaging it in is also said to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage. They can also help to prevent ingrown hairs, wrinkles, and blemishes, making it an important step for anyone who regularly shaves or waxes. Not bad for a simple scrub!

However, it is important to remember that not all body scrubs are created equal. Some of them can contain microbeads, which are tiny plastic particles. They are very absorbent, meaning they can absorb the beneficial ingredients from the skin. Microbeads also do not dissolve in water, which can end up impacting the environment. Others may contain harmful ingredients such as synthetic fragrances and sodium Laureth sulfate, which can irritate the skin and eyes. As such, it is important you choose body scrubs that are organic, do not contain harmful ingredients, and are eco-friendly. We’ve listed a few of them below for your perusal:
